This is Jörg Schilling's original cdrtools from which
cdrkit (wodim, genisoimage etc., as found
in Fedora and Red Hat distributions) was forked several years ago.
This code was more recently actively maintained than cdrkit and may be worth
trying if you are having problems writing CDs, DVDs etc.

Jörg's description of the timeline was as follows:
cdrtools and stopped distributing the original cdrtools.
The Debian fork includes responsibility for approximately 100 Debian-specific bug reports.
The responsible Debian packager started a defamation campaign against cdrtools and sent lots of personal insults.cdrecord as a "result" of a license change that was not done.
100% of cdrecord was under GPL at that time and no relicensing had been introduced.cdrtools based on a wrong GPL interpretation that would make any Linux
distribution illegal, the license was changed to CDDL (except for mkisofs).Jörg sadly >A HREF="https://lwn.net/Articles/872489/">passed away in October 2021 so it is unlikely that any further updates will be made to this software.
